Message from the CEO

David Berkal | CEO,
Banyan Software

As we wrap up the year, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible period of growth this year has been for us, with new companies joining from all corners of the globe. Each one brings its own story, people, and ambition, and seeing them become part of our community has been a real highlight.

This was also the year we went all in on AI. I think many are still in “wait and see” mode or at most “test and experiment,” whereas we’ve definitely moved to action. It’s amazing to see the speed of change our companies can now drive. Owners we speak with generally fall into two camps: those who don’t know where to start and those who are already generating revenue and helping transform their customers’ day with new functionality. Both are exciting to work with. It has been energizing to help our operating companies, and the owners we meet, see what is possible with the tools we already have available today, and then support them as they move from learning toward action.

Most importantly, I am so proud of our teams this year. Our businesses are beating budget, achieving double-digit growth, and have ambitious sights set for 2026. Every time we come together to share learnings, I walk away inspired.

What also stands out to me is how strongly our model continues to resonate with sellers and management teams. People want a long term, growth oriented, and purpose driven partner that gives them real autonomy. They want an alternative to selling to private equity or strategics, and they want to know their company and their people will be looked after. The idea of a permanent home with real support continues to set us apart.

We now have a nearly ten-year track record of helping mostly bootstrapped software companies grow and truly take their business to the next stage. We have honored our commitment to never sell a business, and we continue to strive for 100 percent referenceability from every seller who has trusted us with their legacy.

Thank you to every team member, leader, and partner who contributed to this year. I’m grateful for what we have built together, and I’m excited for what comes next.

Approach to AI

AI in Action

In 2025, we made a very deliberate choice to step up our investment in AI. We increased resources, built the right internal expertise, and equipped our operating companies with the knowledge they need to use these tools in ways that truly change how they work. This has moved us well past basic experimentation and into practical, measurable impact across the portfolio.

To give you an idea, weʼve built a suite of AI growth enablement programs designed specifically for small to mid-sized software companies. These initiatives help teams work smarter and faster through:

Hands-on support with tools like Copilot, Cursor, and OpenAI APIs

Workshops in areas such as code modernization, automated testing, and product ideation

An AI Readiness Scorecard that identifies each companyʼs potential for modernization, technical agility, and data-driven opportunities

Our AI, and Sales and Marketing Guilds where we share proven playbooks, best practices, and success stories to empower teams to adopt AI in daily operations.

2–10x

productivity

gains

The results speak for themselves. At one of our businesses, an AI-assisted UI upgrade project was reduced from 800 to 400 engineering days. Some teams are seeing 2–10x productivity gains in areas like legacy code cleanup and test automation, particularly among junior developers.

As we continue learning, our goal remains the same: to help our companies stay competitive, build responsibly, and create lasting value.

Seller Story

Paul Nixon, co-founder and CEO of Intuitive

“I co-founded the business 20 years ago, and you realize how much you care about the company. You care about the brand, you care about the team, you care about your customers. And not all investment vehicles are equally protective of those things.”

Community

A Look Inside Our Business Community

This year, our community grew stronger through meaningful connections, shared learning, and cross-portfolio collaboration.

A highlight of the year was our annual Summit in Toronto, where CEOs from across the world came together to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and build lasting relationships. Check out the video below to learn more. Throughout the year, we also held portfolio-level summits focused on specific verticals or regions, creating more opportunities for connection and collaboration within our global network.

Our Guilds, peer groups that bring together functional leaders across the portfolio, remained active spaces for idea sharing and practical learning in areas like Customer Success, Sales and Marketing, AI, and Product Development. Our online portal and Slack channels remain active spaces where leaders can access proven playbooks, share best practices, and offer real-time support to peers navigating similar challenges.

It’s been an exciting year, and we’re (still) just getting started. It’s amazing to see how a connected, collaborative community makes each one of our businesses stronger.

Impact

A year of Impact

As we continue to grow, we’re focused on something that matters even more: turning that progress into positive impact for people and the planet. Endowed with a $100 million commitment of stock, the Banyan Software Foundation grew its reach and impact in 2025. Our grants supported organizations using technology to unlock opportunity and drive sustainability, from upskilling workers to enabling the global energy transition.

This year, we partnered with five nonprofit organizations whose missions closely align with ours: driving lasting, global change

Merit America and Catch22 are helping more than 800 people gain access to skills training and sustainable employment pathways.

Kiron has supported over 175,000 learners by expanding access to education for refugees and underserved communities.

Digital Green is projected to reach 2 million farmers through its open-source AI platform, FarmerChat, which advances data-driven climate resilience.

TransitionZero is equipping government partners in over 40 countries with energy system models that inform renewable transition strategies.

We’ve also built employee programs that reflect the same values we invest in externally.

Employee Learning & Development Fund: Supported employees in advancing certifications and degree programs that bring new skills and ideas into our businesses.

Employee Resource Fund: Provided confidential, financial support to team members facing unexpected hardship.

Volunteer Time Off Program: With two volunteer time off days, employees were able to dedicate their time to local causes, from mentoring youth to environmental cleanups. We also completed a corporate objective of 500+ group volunteer hours!

We were honored to be named to the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of Fastest-Growing Private Companies for the fifth year in a row.
